💡 Pilates Tip of the Month: Activate Your Posterior Chain

Looking to improve posture, balance, and spinal support in your Pilates practice? Focus on strengthening your posterior chain—the muscles along the back of your body, including the gluteshamstrings, and spinal extensors.

Most of us are anteriorly dominant (overusing the front body), which can lead to muscular imbalance and inefficient movement. Activating the posterior chain helps you move with better alignment and core integration.

Top Exercises for Posterior Chain Activation:

Pre-Pilates:

  • Flat Back Bridge

  • Opposite Arm/Leg Reach

  • Mini-Swan

Mat Pilates:

  • Shoulder Bridge

  • Swimming

  • Leg Pull Up

Reformer:

  • Bridging & Pelvic Lift

  • Long Box Pulling Straps

  • Long Box Swan

Chair:

  • Hamstring Stretch 2

  • Swan on Chair

  • Reverse Swan

Tower/Trapeze Table:

  • Joe’s Breathing

  • Rolling In and Out

  • Thigh Stretch

🔁 Incorporating these exercises regularly will strengthen your back body and support deeper, more integrated Pilates movement.
